project: The construction of a new home using traditional materials around an energy efficient, modern timber frame within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Our client wished to construct a new home around a contemporary, energy efficient timber frame supplied by Scandia-Hus Limited. The contract included the careful restoration of a number of Grade II Listed outbuildings and the enclosing courtyard wall, using local stone and hand-made clay facing bricks.

Combining timber frame technology and thermally efficient heating, ventilation and insulation with traditional brick and natural slate, needed careful planning and co-ordination to ensure that the different elements of the structure were compatible. Local environmental issues also demanded ongoing consideration and the result is an outstanding property that successfully blends modern building technology with high quality traditional craftsmanship.
