project: The installation of
a passenger and goods lift within the Grade II Listed Andover Guildhall,
requiring major structural alterations.
Located at the heart of the market town of Andover,
the Guildhall is a Grade II Listed building of historic significance
that serves as a prestigious meeting place and the location of the
locally renowned ‘Mayor’s Parlour’. However, despite
its importance to the town’s cultural heritage it no longer
met the necessary access requirements and the local authority was
faced with the problem of installing a passenger and goods lift
within the building.
Installing a lift shaft through
the centre of a Grade II Listed building inevitably required major
structural alterations. The essential changes were finished in sympathy
with the existing period features and despite keeping the Guildhall
open the project was still completed within 12 weeks.
